response to "ORANGES AND SWEET SISTER BOY"

"Oranges and sweet sister boy" by Judy Ruiz, describes a peculiar since of finding ones-self and overcoming everyday problems.
when reading just the begining of the book she seems to have a twisted form of disgust to her. hoping that this is all a dream and her brother would still be her brother in the morning. as the pages move on, she starts to get a grip on the situation and come to an understanding while recalling hers and her brother/sisters childhood.
this passage had a morbid feel all the way till it got near the end. expressed great detale even during her dreams and the recall of her past. the one thing that was very strange was how the two werent any different about wanting to be the other sex. where she say's "i wanted my boyfriend to put a gun up inside me and blow the women out"
The orange was a great metaphore for the situation. how if you try to go through the peel its bitter, but if you remove it and go through the core its sweet and enjoyable. like making a life altering dicision. make it to quick and you choose wrong.
the last passage was the best part of the story. "sister, you are the best craziness of the family. brother, love what you love" She was finaly happy and understanding with him/her being itself.

  1. Hi Brad,
This is a good start, but there are a few things to remember for next time:
    1) Try to use correct grammar and sentence structure (capitalization, punctuation, etc). It's just good practice.
    2) When analyzing an essay, think more about how the writer brings his message across than what that message is. I'm interested in the choices the writer is making and how you experienced the writing in general.
    3) You are a little short on length here - shoot for 500 words.
